Bearing All Wild Men of Alaska Book 4 edition by Tiffinie Helmer Romance eBooks

In this second chances, shaken - not stirred, spy romance, there is action, tension and a good dose of escapism for the reader. Sergei is the reclusive mountain man and Kate is on a mission to annihilate him. What she doesn't take into account, are her unresolved feelings for him. Keeping Kate from killing him proves to be more difficult than Sergei at first thought, but the destruction left in her wake makes him realise that she has learned a thing or two since they last met. Kate finally realises that she has believed a lie but she is torn as she has to decide whether being kept in the dark was worth it. Whilst Sergei is fully capable of subduing Kate he is nevertheless gentle with her, and tends her wounds when he could have just left them. The emotional tension between the couple is tangible and although steamy, the story is tasteful. As a relatively quick read, I enjoyed this story.

Bearing All Wild Men of Alaska Book 4 edition by Tiffinie Helmer Romance eBooks Reviews

I have a feeling this novella is great if you have been immersed in this series. As a stand alone it was OK. I felt like I was missing too much back story to really to really be immersed in it. I thought the writing was decent enough and I will probably check out some of her other works, but I would not recommend this be the first Wild Men of Alaska book you read.
(★★★1/2) My first Tiffinie Helmer book, BEARING ALL was a fast read, enjoyable as a mini-break. Easily a stand-alone (even though it's #4 in the Wild Men of Alaska series), it may be perfect for readers looking for a light "enemies-to-lovers" story with mainstream (read sensual, NOT erotic) love scenes and a romantic HEA. (Note It's a holiday story only insofar as it takes place just before Christmas.)

Meet Kate "No Mercy" Mercer, a CIA operative on a mission to make up for past failures and avenge the death of her partner. Shame that her sexual attraction for her target keeps getting in the way.

Then we have Sergei Lavinsky, a former Russian spy codenamed "The Bear" who defected and is now a guide, fisherman, and handyman at a rustic lodge in Kachemak Bay, Alaska. Unbeknownst to Kate, she's the reason that he's been languishing in the Alaskan wilderness for the past two years since their ill-fated meeting in Afghanistan.

BEARING ALL is an example of "it's probably me, not the book". Fairly well-written with a developed storyline for its short length, I would've enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't had to work so hard to suspend disbelief while reading it. The physical attraction between Kate and Sergei is tangible, and their sparring built up the sexual tension nicely. However, everything else lost its edge (yes, pun intended) under the weight of numerous plot and character inconsistencies, as well as edit/proof errors [hidden spoiler deleted for ].

Furthermore, as much as I liked Sergei, the Russian accent and broken English expressed in his dialogue were unbelievable (most spies not too effective or long-lived with this) and distracting. Every time I tried to lose myself in the story, it served to remind me of a bad B-grade Dracula movie. Not what I want when reading a sexy romance...

(Thanks, Secret Book Claus(e)! Was a great pick given this week's tricky theme. ^_^)
I couldn't put it down. The characters were colorful and compelling like in her other books. I look forward to the next.
This is book #4 of the Wild Men of Alaska series and this was Tiffinie Helmer's hottest book so far. I don't know if it is from her love of Daniel Craig or just that Sergei and Kate were just that good together, but goodness! Two former spies, Sergei is in hiding and Kate is sent to kill him. But can she kill the one man who broke through her barriers all those years ago? Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Based off her previous 4 short stories, I cannot wait for Tiffinie Helmer's book Edge to be released March 18, 2013.
Fun fast paced read. Kate is strong independent and capable; and Sergei must convince her to take a chance with him. I really enjoyed Sergei and Kate’s story, I hope to read more stories with them in the future.
Enjoyment - 4.50
Characters - 4.50
Story - 4.50
Technical - 4.00
Overall - 4.50

Ms Helmer does it again. I've enjoyed all of her books and this one is no different. I'll be adding this to my favorites! This was an awesome, and quick read. I loved the characters, especially Sergei. I had a little difficulty wrapping my brain around Kate and her extremes of hatred and love. I went with it though. Overall, fun, enjoyable, and sexy. Needz moar!
The story of two spies, Bearing All (Wild Men of Alaska) is reminiscent of the spy thriller books that were set in the cold war and gave birth to the now classic The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne Book #1) series and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Coronet Books) that made Robert Ludlum and John Le Carre very famous.

Bearing in mind that this is a romance novel wrapped in a spy thriller bundle, author Tiffinie Helmer actually did a great job. Both main characters were developed very nicely. And I love it that they can get hurt physically and also feel physical pain. And the imaginative way that the weapons were hidden is actually James Bond worthy.

So, why am I giving the book only 4 stars. It's because the "bad guy" (this is a spy thriller, the bad guy is very important) was given very little screen time. There's not even enough time to dislike him.

Maybe its because the book is short and there was no time to develop the bad guy properly. And overall, this is a good read that actually verges on great.

This book is rated M for mature due to sex and violence. Oh... for those who are interested, the sex scenes sizzles.
